Vua Cua – King of Crab
Very often, I usually visit Seafood Buffets in Vietnam to have a taste of seafood varieties among other options. However, Crab is the main seafood I will dig out whenever I visit a Seafood Buffet. It is my all-time favorite especially how it is prepared for me.
Knowing that Vietnam has always been well known for their fresh seafood, I am to hunt for a restaurant specialized in Crabs.
Having spoken to some of my Vietnamese friends in HCMC, they recommended me a restaurant known as Vua Cua – King of Crab. The name practically spells out everything you need to know about Crabs.
THE EXPERIENCE
Located at district 1, probably takes me about under 15 minutes by taxi from my hotel at Ly Tu Trong. Depends on traffic conditions too. We all know traffic can be really crazy in Vietnam during peak hours.
Upon arrival, I was well received by a friendly waitress. It was full house, and I was led to the 2nd floor, given table near to the entry point.
A simple setup restaurant with photo frames displaying their various dishes of crabs and of course their huge branding at the main wall of every floor. However, the space for walking can be quite limited especially on the 2nd floor. Don’t be surprise if you bang on someone behind as the tables are pretty closeup.
Now, down to the menu. Honestly, it took me at least 10 minutes to decide what I want to eat. There are various types of crabs and sizes to choose from. As well as more than 8 styles of cooking the crab you want. There is also other seafood to choose from such as Lobster, Prawns, Crayfish, Oysters, Snails among others.
And so when I went ahead to place my order, I was told by the waitress that Salted Egg Crab is out of stock. OMG! That’s one of their signature dishes. Sad! Anyway, since I am here, might as well I try other dishes. I went for their Singapore Chilli Sauce Crab and Tamarind Sauce Crab.
Their Tamarind Sauce Crab is good. Crab is cook fresh and meat tender. However, as for their Singapore Chilli Sauce Crab, maybe because I am a Singaporean, I felt that Vietnamese cooking Singapore Chilli Crab might not reach its full potential. The sauce is too thick and lack of egg.
THE OUTCOME
My overall experience is good and I will surely return to try their Salted Egg Yolk Crab.
