V Hotel Review: One of the best budget hotels in Johor Bahru
We’ve been receiving a lot of requests for ‘good and cheap’ budget hotel recommendations in Johor Bahru. So, we’ll be reviewing the two budget hotels we stayed at during our company trip to JB last week.
In this blog, we’ll share our experience at V Hotel. It’s a three-storey shophouse nestled in a row of similar shophouses. It doesn’t have an elevator, so be prepared to take the stairs if your room happens to be on the third floor. It’s been given and fresh coat of paint and was recently renovated, making it look like new.
I chose this hotel because it’s only four shophouses from our favourite Mamak Restaurant. It’s open 24 hours a day, serves great Malay and Indian food and you can also enjoy live soccer matches while you eat.
We checked in at 10pm and were offered four rooms. Supposedly, the rooms facing the main road were the better ones, but I’m a light sleeper so I chose the corner room, away from the bustling streets. My room didn’t have a window, but I didn’t mind.
My room was pretty decent. The bed had clean sheets, there was a small desk to work on and the bathroom wasn’t too cramped. I was able to have a good night’s sleep until I was woken up by loud music at 8 o’clock the next morning. I thought the room next door was the one blasting music, but as it went on, I realised it was coming from the hotel.
I couldn’t go back to sleep even with ear plugs, so I had no choice but to get up.
When we checked out at noon, I asked the receptionist about the music. Turns out that the music goes on from 8 am to 8 pm. She asked if it was loud and I replied that it was. As I mentioned before, I’m a light sleeper so I can’t sleep if it’s too noisy. And I don’t think I’m the only customer like that.
In conclusion, if you’re the type who goes to bed and wakes up early, you should consider staying here. Location-wise, it’s surrounded by cafes and restaurants and Plaza Pelangi is just a two-minute walk away. All this for just $26 per night is more than reasonable.
