Tapai Tang: Popular for Salt Baked Chicken in Johor bahru
It was past midnight and I was really hungry. I visited the nearby street hawkers and stalls but all of them were closed so I did some digging over the internet and saw this advertisement on Tapai Tang and their popular Salt Baked Chicken. What mattered most was that they close at 4am!
I took a Grab down and arrived in less than 10 minutes from my hotel (Grand Paragon Hotel). Since it was midnight, there wasn’t a lot of traffic at that time.
Upon reaching, from its first impression, it is just a typical restaurant with normal tables and chairs setup. It looked ordinary but the food that came was the most impressive part of the restaurant.
Given the menu, it would usually take me about 5 minutes to decide what I want to eat. I went for some basic dishes such as Claypot Bean Curd, Egg Omelette and of course, I was here for their signature Salted Baked Chicken. When I went ahead with my order, the waitress was friendly to inform me that they only served whole chicken. Then another waitress said is kampong chicken. I believed it meant smaller size. Since I was all the way down here, I figured I might as well just order it and then decide later how to deal with it.
Soon after, I called for reinforcement, my cousins. Hahaha. I managed to get them out of the house to join me for a feast.
The Egg Omelette was ordinary, but I really liked the presentation of the Claypot Bean Curd with soft boiled egg cracked on top of a whole load of other ingredients such as prawns, vegetables among other things. Then came the star dish, Salted Baked Chicken. It was simply tasty.
I will say that this is a good supper place if you are looking for a meal to fill up your stomach before bedtime.
