Restoran Kota Zheng Zong
When you travel to Malaysia, Johor, especially for Singaporeans, one of the popular dishes that many would seek will be Bak Kut Teh.
Before heading back to Singapore, I met up with my cousin and uncle for lunch and he introduced me to this restaurant. At that point of time, it was raining heavily and having something warm would have been great and indeed it was.
Like any typical shophouse restaurant, the setup was simple but it was already packed to the max capacity. We were lucky to have the last available table.
The menu was presented to us but my uncle has already made the decision. He almost ordered everything on the menu but my cousin and I thankfully stopped him.
Nevertheless, we went for Pork Ribs, Pork Chucks, Pork Skin and Pork Belly.
We thought that the wait was going to be long because of the number of customers at this point of time. However the food arrived in under 20 minutes and they were dished out in claypot style, freshly cooked warm.
Generally, the taste of the dishes were pleasant. Having eat different Bak Kut Teh restaurants in Singapore, for me, this tasted slightly different with distinctive aromatic herbal. The darker soup base, which goes well with a bowl of rice or you tiao. The meat was tender and for medium order, the potion was perfect for 3.
Lastly, my favourite part of a pig is the pork belly. I almost ate up more than 50% of the pot. The dish wasn’t too salty and the black sauce blended into the tender meat perfectly.
This is one place I will recommend you guys to visit for a good pot of Bak Kut Teh.
