Restoran E&Y: Best restaurant for late-night supper in JB

Let’s put aside restaurants and cafes for the moment. I think it’s time we talked about Mamak food stalls, in particular Restoran E&Y, one of the most popular Mamak food stalls in Johor Bahru and my favourite place for a late-night supper.

It serves delicious Indian food, is open twenty-four hours a day and is also located next to Plaza Pelangi. You’d be hard pressed to find a seat since it’s almost always a full house, but they recently took over the neighbouring unit, making getting a seat easier.

They have a huge menu that includes roti prata, nasi lemak, mutton soup, fried chicken and, my all-time favourite, satay. The satay meat is tender and well-seasoned; cooked to perfection. Aside from the satay, I also love their cheese egg prata, maggi goreng, tandoori and maggi curry soup.

Their pratas are all made to order so you get them warm and crispy. The maggi goreng has seafood, chicken and fish options. I personally prefer the seafood maggi goreng since it’s delicious and has chock-full of ingredients.

And if you’re wondering why spend money when you can cook your own maggi curry at home, all I can say is that with the added vegetables, mushrooms and eggs, it’s tastier and more satisfying. It’s my go-to when I can’t decide on my order.

The only downside would be communication because the waiters speak very little English. One way around it would be to gesture your order using a menu or asking for someone who can speak decent English.

In conclusion, Restoran E&Y is a great place to eat with delicious and authentic food. And since it’s open all night, it’s a great place to meet friends for a late-night supper.
