Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen: Cosy Vietnamese Restaurant
It was TGIF and my mother will be usually out to church for voluntary works which means dine out for me. I was thinking about having Vietnamese cuisine. Which restaurant should I visit? How about Nam Nam at Plaza Singapura, which was a popular Vietnamese restaurant?
Anyway, a friend of mine introduced me to watch a Korean Movie, Special Delivery. He said that the movie was the next best film closed to The Transporter, which was starring Jason Statham. Well, I never watched a Korean movie in the cinemas, so I went ahead and gotten my ticket for a 9:30pm show at Golden Village Plaza Singapura.
Upon reaching Nam Nam’s location, I realised that it another Vietnamese restaurant has taken it. Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen is the name. Honestly, this new restaurant was well decorated, fitting the Vietnamese culture theme into it. The calm and warm ambience bring that peace and comfort feeling when you dine in. I love the artwork of the lighting frames and wooden furniture used on the tables and chairs. The woodwork on the tall shelves looked exquisite which displayed the different sets of Vietnamese tea and coffee. There was also a Tuk Tuk Van displayed right outside the entrance of the restaurant if you are looking to do some Instagramable photos. Just next to it was a nice wooden bar counter which customers could sit and dine at.
There was a queue when I was there at about 7:30pm. A Vietnamese waitress informed me that the waiting time will be about 15 minutes.
The other thing that I realised was that there weren’t a lot of waitresses working at the restaurant given the scale of it. However, there were a few robotic servers, assisting in serving the food to the dinners instead. It was very interesting indeed.
Soon after, the Vietnamese waitress called for me and ushered me to my table. I was to scan for the menu and order.
Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen served a different type of menu compared to most Vietnamese restaurants. It consisted selected dishes from Mekong, South and Northern Vietnam cuisines. For example, coming from Mekong, they had the Barbeque Meat Platter, Grilled Spicy Seafood Platter, the Signature Hand-Pulled Grilled Spring Chicken, among others.
However, I wanted to try something different this time round. I went for their chef’s recommendation of Pho Ga (Chicken Noodles with Soup) and Cha Gio Tom Thit (Traditional Deep Fried Seafood Spring Rolls).
Honestly, maybe I should not have followed their recommendation. The Pho Ga was very ordinary. I was not sure if it even a Vietnamese dish. It was blend. I will give credit to the Deep Fried Seafood Spring Roll. It was crispy on the outside and well filled with ingredients in the inside.
Well, I have not personally visited Mekong but I have visited Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. If this is how Pho Ga supposed to taste, it will be disappointing. However, I will return to try the Pho Bo instead. Hopefully, it won’t be a disappointment.
