Five Guys Singapore: One of the best American Burger Joints in Singapore

It was TGIF (Thank God it’s Friday), we were having a group discussion at a ‘We Eat, We Drink, and We Play’ Lifestyle Telegram group. I was asking where a good dinner place for burger would be.  A group member who is a Chef at a Japanese Restaurant strongly recommended Five Guys at Plaza Singapura, probably the best American burger joint in Singapore.  As suggested, I decided to give it a shot.

It was 7:30pm when I arrived at Five Guys.  You have a choice to sit between indoor or outdoor.  I would prefer indoor since it was air-conditioned but full house.  Since it was self-service, I stood around and waited for the next available table.  I waited for about 20 minutes, unfortunately, noticing a pair of working-class ladies, sitting at the left corner of the restaurant, just been inconsiderate not leaving even after completing their meals.  Moments later, a kind couple gave their table to me after completing their meals, knowing too I waited long for a table.

The restaurant was simple decorated just like any fast-food restaurant you have visited.  On the walls, there were frames and quotes of credits received from various medias, showing the compliments they received all these years.

Their menu was listed on the screens.  You can customise the burger or the hotdog you want.  First you choose the type of burger and choose from more than 10 different toppings. I was recommended the Bacon Cheeseburger by a friendly cashier.  However, I was checking with her the difference between Bacon Cheeseburger and Little Bacon Cheeseburger.  She explained that either it comes with single or double patty.  Since it was my first visit, I went for the Little Bacon Cheeseburger with Lettuce and Bar-B-Que Sauce for my toppings, along with Fries salted (you can choose Cajun style) and soft drinks which was free flow for $5.  The meal costed me $27.

Well, was it good as recommended?  I won’t say the best burger I have tried but satisfying.  The Beef Patty was well seasoned and tender.  The BBQ sauce was not overpowering and blended nicely with the meat.  The fries were freshly made, warm and crispy.  Even if I went for the Little, the fries were plenty for 1 person.

Generally, it was a fine place for a burger but to pay $27 for it, I won’t be sure if was worth it.  Surely, one of the improvements Five Guys can consider looking at will be, since there were more than 10 staffs behind the counter, maybe you can arrange one to mend the queue and take note of those who hogged tables because by the time I finished my dinner and leaving, the 2 working-class ladies were still sitting there.
