Eighteen Chefs: An Affordable Western Restaurant by an Inspiring Chef
Having to read news about Benny’s retirement, reminded me of the inspiration he brought to many people that sometimes 2nd chance is well deserved. Well, it also reminded me that it has been years since I last visited Eighteen Chefs, the last since their opening branch at Orchard Cineleisure. It was then an affordable western restaurant setup by an Inspiring Chef. Hence, I decided to make a trip to the outlet at Northpoint.
It was a Saturday evening and Northpoint Shopping Mall will be busier than usual. I reached the restaurant at about 7:30pm and there were at least 7 reservations before me.
The wait was about 30 minutes and a waiter got me a bar seat. I was asked to scan the QR Code for the menu. Quite an extensive menu I would say. For appetizers, they had Chicken Nuggets, Onion Rings, Popcorn Chickens, and Calamari Rings among others. If you are in bigger groups, you can consider their platters.
Then for their Main Course, there was a wide variety of Pasta, Fried Rice, Burgers, and steaks. I remembered the last time I had was their Fish and Chips. However, since I was here for a burger, I went for their Eighteen Beef Burger. Here was when I faced a problem. After ordering, I didn’t check out or rather paid to get my orders sent to the kitchen. I thought, like any other restaurant, either you order and pay at the reception before heading to your table or bill after having your meal. I waited for about 20 minutes and decided to ask the waiter about my orders. Only then, I was told that I must place an order and check out the bill so that orders will be directed to the kitchen for processing. I felt that this should be brief to first-timer about such a system and not take for granted that everyone is aware.
Anyway, my orders arrived within the next 15 minutes. Well, the overall presentation was fine. The beef patty tasted above average. However, subject to individual preference, I don’t quite appreciate the layer of Nacho Cheese. To be fair, you are not paying a premium price to dine at such a nice concept restaurant, so it is still a fair deal for me.
