Best Fried Chicken in Singapore
Everyone loves Fried Chicken. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, the thought of biting into a piece of rich, deep-fried chicken covered with a crispy layer of batter will make anyone’s mouth water. That’s why we, Eat Drink Play’s editing team, have put together a list of our favourite Best Fried Chicken in Singapore, ranked best to worst.
A&W Friend Chicken
53 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, B1-51B 51A, Singapore 569933
First on the list is A&W. Their Golden Aroma Fried Chicken is amazing. Not only is the seasoning just right, but the breading is crispy and crunchy while the chicken is tender and juicy. And if you pair it with their signature Root Beer Float and an Ice-cream Waffle for dessert, you’ll leave 100% satisfied.
Arnold’s Fried Chicken
Yishun Central 1, #10 Cinema Cineplex, 51, 01-04, Singapore 768794
I visit Arnold’s for two reasons: one, it’s near my mom’s house and two, the fried chicken is to die for. The chicken is served straight out of the fryer, fried to perfection.
I don’t normally like breast meat, but I make an exception for Arnold’s. It’s worlds away from the dry and tough meat you normally expect. Furthermore, the batter is just enough to provide a nice crunch but not too much to take way from the fried chicken. You’ll be hooked on the first bite.
But it remains at number two because of how much oil they use. At the end of my meal, I’m always left with a small pool of oil.
Jollibee Fried Chicken
304 Orchard Rd, #06-48A Lucky Plaza, Singapore 238863
I used to really enjoy Jolliebee’s fried chicken and constantly sang its praises. But at my most recent visit, I found myself rethinking my stance.
I don’t know if it’s because of the chicken shortage, but the portions were smaller than what I remember. And even though I ordered the original, I somehow ended up with the spicy option. I was lucky my colleague was willing to trade with me because my order was way too spicy for me. The original tasted like any other deep-fried chicken, though it was a bit dry and bland.
Since it’s neither good nor bad, it stays in the middle of the rankings.
Marrybrown Fried Chicken
43 Siloso Beach Walk #01-03 iFly, Singapore 099010
Whenever I go back to Johor Bahru, I always make time to visit Marrybrown and enjoy some delicious fried chicken. So, when I learned that Marrybrown opened a branch in Sentosa, I had to try it.
The fried chicken is better than average, but I felt that there were other restaurants I would have preferred to dine at. I’d eat there if I had business in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my just to eat there.
Kentucky Fried Chicken
68 Orchard Road, #B1-21/22, Plaza Singapura, Singapore 238839
For decades, KFC has reigned as the king of fried chicken restaurants so whenever you hear the words “fried chicken”, you immediately think of KFC. But titans have fallen and KFC has lost its crown.
As much as it pains me to admit, what used to be my favourite restaurant as a kid is now a place I avoid. The coating is so thick that when I take a bite, I can only taste the batter and maybe some chicken, if I’m lucky. And when I order the spicy version, the taste and spiciness isn’t consistent.
So due to its decline, I’m forced to put KFC last on the list.
