Bep Me In
Vietnam is always known for their arts and handicrafts. At Ho Chi Minh City staying at district 1, food is something never lack of, but this time, I am looking at something different. Something more art and creative on the plate. Since I have a group of friends coming for holiday, I thought it is good to show them what Vietnam has to offer.
While I happened to be buying groceries and there is this short lane, leading to the back alley, lies a few Vietnamese restaurants and 1 caught my attention. The restaurant name is called Bep Me In. I decided to drop by for lunch.
Amazing is how I described it. The walls were artistic drawn with pop-up effects. The tables and chairs were wood made, presenting it in a traditional way and same goes for their fork, spoons and plates. Back to the 90s Saigon with a Tuk Tuk Car at the back of the restaurant where they prepare and mix their drinks.
It was full house and I was told that I have to wait for about 30 minutes as there was a queue before me. Well, I am fine with waiting making time useful to take photos of the restaurant.
Finally, the wait is over after only 15 minutes, a friendly waitress ushered me to my table and gave me the menu. Wow!!! It is handmade too. Impressive!!!
Having gone through the menu, on the safer side, let’s start with some of their star dishes. Their Honey Stewed Pork Strip on Bamboo Stick, Seafood Fried Rice on Coconut Shell, Chopped Pork Green Vegetables Soup, BBQ Chicken Wing with Basil Leaf and Vietnamese Siew Mai.
Food was served after about 20 minutes of waiting. Let’s start with the Chopped Pork Green Vegetables Soup. Well, it is common taste for me while my friends find it a little blend. The Vietnamese Siew Mai and BBQ Chicken Wing with Basil Leaf tasted fine but maybe the Chicken Wing meat is a little tough to eat for me while my friends like the Vietnamese Siew Mai pretty much and went ahead with a 2nd around of it.
However, the 2 standout dishes for me will be the Honey Stewed Pork Strip on Bamboo Stick and Seafood Fried Rice on Coconut Shell. I love the presentation of both dishes. Served on a Bamboo Stick, the Honey Stewed Pork Strip tasted awesome. I have never quite tasted such good pork which gives you a feeling as if it melts in your mouth. The sweetest and tenderness were perfectly balanced.
The Seafood Fried Rice on Coconut Shell presentation I loved the most. The moment I opened the coconut husk, the fragrance was WOW!!! Ingredients were filling and delicious.
