Banana Leaf Seafood BBQ: Most delicious Seafood BBQ in Singapore

It has been more than 15 years, I have been visiting this hawker stall, Banana Leaf Seafood BBQ for their BBQ sambal seafood.  I can confidently say, is the best there is to offer in Singapore.   When I was still staying in the West, easily, I visited them at least twice a month, enjoying their delicious served of seafood.

However, recently, there was an incident about them overcharging a customer over a dish of shrimp.  Having to pay expensively for small shrimps, unfortunately and undeservedly it went on to online media publications.  To be fair, ask the price first before ordering.  In my personal experience with them for so many years, the uncle or aunty serving there will usually show you want you are paying for before committing.  Furthermore, the rates were more reasonable if you were to compare to Newton Circle.  Not to mention comparing the standards.  Anyway, I paid them a visit last week after a business meeting at Clementi Mall.

Well situated next to Clementi MRT Station, it only takes you 2 minutes to walk there.  As usual, the hawker centre was packed out for dinner.  Glad enough, the uncle remembered me after so long, and he cleared one of the tables, which they placed some stocks on, just for me.

He still remembered my usual orders, Sambal Stingray and Sambal Squid plus 2 bowls of rice.  Haha!  Well, they do not have an extensive menu but more than enough you probably wish for – Crab, Prawn, Fish, Squid, Stingray, Crayfish, Petai, Morning Glory, Kailan among others.

Under 20 minutes, food was served on banana leaves.  The fragrance from the sambal sauce was WOW!!!  And that’s their secret recipe.  The thickness of their sambal with the taste of spiciness and mild sour-sweet mixed on it made it the perfect taste on any seafood dishes you order.  You can even go Sambal with their warm steamy rice.

My stingray meat was tender, and the squid was easy on the bite, not chewy.  This is what you probably will get from freshness.

After so many years, they managed to maintain that same standard I first ate at this place.  If I am in the west, I will surely come by for another visit.

For $20+, it was surely worth it.
