LAI – An excellent Restaurant that serves delicious Cantonese cuisines
After being stuck in Singapore for more than 2 years due to Covid-19, border restrictions were finally lifted. I get to travel to Vietnam again! I have prepared a whole list of cafes and restaurants lined up for visiting and tasting. One of them will be LAI Cantonese restaurant. I was told how delicious the food was with an excellent dining ambience. Let us check it out!
Situated at the Atas Sedona Suite, next to Takashimaya Saigon, which is about 10 minutes walk from Cho Ben Thanh Market. Met up with my business client at about 7:30 evening, with him leading the way since he was familiar with the management.
The one thing I really appreciate in Vietnam is that there will always be beautiful and friendly hostesses on the ground floor, directing you to the restaurant. Up to the 28th floor, again you will see another group of hostesses guiding you to the restaurant. Then taken over by waitresses, showing you the way to your table reservation.
Entering the restaurant, you would have been impressed by their State of Art concept design and we managed to get a The Terrace outdoor table. The view was breathtaking! Before I even start on the menu, I took a video of the night view of Ho Chi Minh City. Having visited Ho Chi Minh City for more than 10 years, without a doubt, LAI restaurant provides you with one of the best views of the city while dining. The ambience was perfect for me. You will not regret bringing your date here. Hahaha.
Now, back to the menu. LAI is a Cantonese cuisine restaurant that utilizes modern cooking techniques and the highest quality ingredients to enhance the taste of the dishes. Every dish is presented and garnished distinctively to match their ambience with their modern design and traditional Chinese patterns. Apparently, the well-known LW Design Group does the design. Some of their signature dishes will be their LAI Roasted Australian Duck, Fried Braised Beef Short Ribs, Thai Style Deep Fried Beancurd with Mango, 3 Flavoured Premium Prawn Dumplings, among others.
I left the orders to my client, and he recommended LAI Peking Duck (one of my favourites by the way) 3 ways which include Duck Fried Rice. He also ordered the three Flavored Premium Prawn Dumplings, Braised Assortment of Vegetables and Mushrooms wrapped with Beancurd Skin, and Golden Crispy Roulade with Crab Meat and Shrimps.
While waiting for our food to arrive, I went busy shooting the night scene of Ho Chi Minh City. It will be a total waste if you don’t capture such beautiful views of Ho Chi Minh City.
Soon after, a side table was pushed over, we get to witness the preparation of the Peking duck. Served in ceramic tableware, it was well presented. The duck skin was crispy and tasty, wrapped in 3 flavours’ of homemade pancake (orange, pandan and original).
Then we were served the Golden Crispy Roulade with Crab Meat and Shrimp. Never stingy with the fillings wrapped over with golden brown crispy skin fried to perfection. I never expected myself to taste a vegetarian dish but the Braised Assortment of Vegetables and Mushrooms wrapped with Beancurd Skin did come in big portions. Honestly, already with so much food on the table, not sure how we are going to finish them all.
Of course, how can I miss out on the highlight of the night, the 3 Flavoured Premium Prawn Dumplings? I love the skin texture and the dumplings were flavorful. Freshly handmade, juicy and delicious.
With great food and ambience, it will be a perfect place for a dinner date, business dinner or family gathering, but maybe not casually as the price might be heavy for some patrons. Well, it is still worth a visit for once.
