Tan Hai Van: Popular late night Supper Tim Sum at Ho Chi Minh City

Ahh… Tim Sum. I have been covering lots of Tim Sum places especially in Malaysia. Now, let me share my findings in Vietnam Ho Chi Minh, especially for late night supper.

I will also say that this is the best place for Tim Sum with slightly cheaper price and better variety. However, Tan Hai Van has been in business for years and this has been one of my regular hangouts for late night supper at Nguyen Trai Street.

THE EXPERIENCE

It is like a Hong Kong restaurant with traditional Chinese concept impression that serves all kinds of Cantonese cuisines. You name it, they have it. For me, I am usually there for their Tim Sum.

As usual will go with the standard orders such as Pork Steam Buns, Siew Mai, Prawn Dumpling, Fried Chicken with Noodles, Bean Curd Skin Spring Roll, Pork Fried Buns, Fried Turnip Cake (special order with egg), Stream Spicy Pork Ribs, Shrimp Har Gow, Glutinous Rice Dumplings and Fried Chicken Feet.

The one dish that I like very much will be their Mince Pork Congee with Chicken Egg (special order to replace their Century Egg) and most recently, a friend of mine recommended their Mayonnaise Fried Shrimps. Gosh! It was simply delicious.

THE OUTCOME

Truthfully, this is not an expensive place to go given the range and quality food served at this high level. Furthermore, this is the only restaurant which sells Tim Sum still late night.

You might want to take note that most of the staffs can’t speak English and only the Managers can speak Cantonese.

However, it was good that the menu has English description. Any special orders, you might face a problem communicating across thus always look for the manager!
