Yi Jia Seafood: Best Seafood Restaurant in Johor Bahru
During the Lunar New Year, any restaurant you visit will be a bad time because it will be crowded and you have to be ready to wait for a long time before your turn for a table, and I was bragging about having a good crab for our Lunar dinner. My cousins recommended me Yi Jia Restaurant, claiming it as the Best Seafood Restaurant in Johor Bahru. In Mandarin, ‘Yi’ means billion. ‘Jia’ means house. Well, a strong name for a restaurant and so I decided to pay this place a visit. There isn’t phone reservation on that day and so we decided to drop by earlier to queue for a table.
THE EXPERIENCE
We arrived at 7pm and you will have an overview of the restaurant. Wow! The restaurant is full house. While waiting for our turn, my cousins were busy taking photos because around the restaurant was well decorated for selfie and a big crab statue to represent their signature dish; The Golden Crab Dish! I was busy observing the dishes served to the customers. Honestly, it is not surprising given the sight of quality they have been serving and every table has crabs on them.
I thought the wait is going to be longer than expected but we got it after only 30 minutes of wait. For a peak season, I think it is quite fast.
Everyone was hungry and since I was the guest, they were pushing me for the orders… Hahaha. Ok… here goes… I went for the Signature Golden Fried Crab (Salted Egg), Sharks Fin, Lobster (Egg White), Fried Yam Cake topped with Sweet Sour Pork Ribs and Stir-Fried Scallops with Seasonal Vegetables.
The dishes took a longer time to arrive than our waiting time for our table but was it worth waiting for 45 minutes? Yes, absolutely. The one thing I will not do in a restaurant and that’s to push for the food to deliver fast. Most of the time, it will not end up well.
The Signature Golden Fried Crab was awesome! This got to be my favourite dish. The Salted Egg Yolk was creamy and tasteful. The Crab was perfectly cooked to juiciness. Oh yes, 1 more thing. Don’t waste the Salted Egg Sauce, order a few Fried Buns and eat with the Sauce as it is yummy!
The Lobster was fine but maybe I felt that it might taste a little bland. Probably because we have our Salted Egg Yolk before the Lobster in Egg White. I will compliment on the texture of the Lobster meat… good cooking.
The rest of the dishes are fine and usual for me at acceptable standards.
THE OUTCOME
Will I come back again? Surely will but probably during off peak season… Hahaha!
