Chau Ky Mi Gia: Delicious and Cheap Wanton Mee served by a Street Hawker
Everywhere I go, I will always want to find a delicious plate of Wanton Noodles. It is not surprising even for Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City.
A colleague of mine recommended me a street stall located at Nguyen Trai. This street is known for street shopping. You can see many moving around in their motorbikes just to shop. There are just so many fashion shops and restaurants along a long stretch of road.
There lies a street stall among them. Along a side alley, with foldable steel tables and chairs, busy serving their customers.
I was offered a seat which I have to share with another customer. Given the menu, I told him I wanted a bowl of Wan Tan Noodles. The boss gratefully acknowledged and asked me if I am from Hong Kong. I said I am not but from Singapore. We have some conversations because he can speak Cantonese very well.
After about 10 minutes of waiting time, finally I am served with a warm bowl of Wanton Mee. Honestly, the usual Wanton Mee, which we have back in Singapore, were usually dry but here in Vietnam, Wan Tan Noodle is known for its soup base. Seriously, there was a whole load of ingredients in here. There is Wanton, Char Siew, Prawn Crackers, Pig Liver and some vegetables. Their Wanton was amazingly good. Thin on the skin but rich in meat.
Also, this stall brought many memories to me and that’s why I have been visiting it for the past 10 years. Every trip to Ho Chi Minh City, I will never miss a trip back to this stall.
